Sharing the Light

"Some people say you shouldn't share your spiritual experiences, dreams and visions with others. I think that's nonsense. It's a very selfish attitude, for a person who cares only about their own realization."

On February 9, 2001, I had an extraordinary experience. I walked down a familiar desert gorge with a large group of students. It was Rama's birthday.

The sun had set, and darkness with its cold fingers gripped at me. The stars lit up the night sky, followed much later by the almost full moon.

Tony led us down the gorge, stopping and inviting students to share. As we went deeper into the gorge the energy increased, and finally we were all fluid awareness. As a group, we were no longer solid, and students faded in and out of my vision, headless, bodiless, different stages of emptiness.

One by one, people came forward and shared powerful moments they had with Rama.

That night, I had an experience I had never had before. I fell in love with Rama's students. I felt him in them, and I felt the oneness in all of us. The word tribe took on a new meaning for me.

I used to sit with Rama in meditation groups at various places on the planet, and to be honest; I was not aware of, or particularly interested in, other students. I was there to sit with Rama. I suspect that was true of most of his students.

This night in the desert I was struck by the light in each student. Rama was there that night, absolutely--in each of his students. I don't mean this metaphorically, I mean this absolutely.

Student by student, experience by experience, I got to touch Rama. Each person brought forth his essence, sometimes in humor, sometimes in love, sometimes in humility and purity, sometimes in power. Each was extraordinary, and I loved each student for sharing his or her moments--on this auspicious night.

We all share the incredible good fortune of being students of Rama. He is our teacher-our doorway to eternity. And we, well we have a gift to share. We can, if we choose, share the light of eternity. One person at a time, one moment at a time. So it is true. Rama lives!
