"Kundalini Yoga and Dharma"

-- from Rama's tapes

"Let's get practical."

"Your state of awareness is dependent upon the kundalini flow within yourself."

"Don't worry about techniques. Concern yourself with finding Dharma, and meditate."

Rama

The first time I met Rama I was very aware of an intense sensation, it was like an energy rush, close to a tingling sensation, but not quite. It was undeniable, palpable, and it startled me. I had no name for the sensation, and while it wasn't totally foreign to me, the level of intensity was outrageous. Later I understood that this wonderful body massage was my body's print out of the kundalini energy. Some call it the chi, some prana, some life force. I like the word kundalini, it's fun to say, and to hear.

When I was 14 I used to walk down to the beach with friends, and surf on an old balsa wood board. Then I would lay in the hot summer sand, and I would feel the kundalini. It had no name then, but it was there.

Today I went out and rode a motorcycle for the first time. It was just a scooter, and I didn't ride very far. But when I got off of the bike, there was that kundalini rush again. Minutes later I was in the gym lifting weights, and it was so easy because that energy was just rushing through, "giving life" to my life.

Great teachers teach by example. A few, the best of the best, teach with energy. Rama didn't live a long life by today's standards, but as other students have said, he lived life to the max! He was showing us how to live a remarkable life.

As the mind grows quieter the kundalini increases. From the stillness it is easier to find personal dharma. Follow that dharma, and kundalini increases. Kundalini increases and we move into heightened awareness.

So we lead a happy life, having new adventures, meditating and increasing our energy. We enjoy this life, and in the process, we spiral upward, into higher and brighter awareness. We laugh and dance our way into enlightened mind. Not a bad way to spend an incarnation.

Cautionary Note: When I got on that motorcycle today the most important ingredient to my successful ride was balance. The key to the path of kundalini yoga is balance. You don't want to go too far too fast. Keep in mind that as you ride the energy you listen and watch for the dharma--your own personal correct action in the moment.

Rama presented thousands of techniques that were intended to help students along their own pathway to enlightenment. Techniques presented here may be useful for you. The teachings are meant to be used by students who are serious about their practice, and their own enlightenment.

A special thanks to
Lynne (Samadhi) for her writing, and the inspiration to begin this feature.
